Diemersfontein Country Estate is known for its beauty, informal elegance and grace and has been owned by the Sonnenberg family for three generations. It is an idyllic country destination only 45 minutes’ drive from Cape Town yet situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands.
Although Diemersfontein is the undisputed home of the original Coffee Chocolate Pinotage, there is much more to experience than just Pinotage!
Francois Roode has been the cellar master since 2003 and he produces an impressive array of award-winning wines under both the Diemersfontein and Thokozani labels. While Pinotage is close to his heart, especially since it is a uniquely South African variety the Diemersfontein range includes Rhône blends, Chenin Blanc, and several more noble cultivars.
Central to the working wine estate is the original family manor house which was built in 1890 and is currently owned by the Sonnenberg family and operated as a guest house. The magnificent gardens are reminiscent of an era when gracious living and tranquillity were the order of the day. Today David Sonnenberg and his family share this heritage with visitors as the estate has become a much sought-after destination for weddings, conferences, and other special occasions. Their Tasting Room is open seven days a week.
