Taalmuseum bekyk protespoësie / Protest poetry under the spotlight at Taalmuseum (English below)
Voorafbespreking via kommunikasie@taalmuseum.co.za of 021 863 0543 is noodsaaklik. Meer oor Luna by lunapaige.com.

Free workshop with musician Luna Paige in honour of Youth Month
In honour of Youth Month, the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument presents a free workshop with musician Luna Paige on Afrikaans protest poetry. On Saturday, 11 June 2022, participants will analyse the exciting works of among others Adam Small, Breyten Breytenbach, Patrick Petersen and Lynthia Julius after which they will be able to create their own poems and lyrics, immediately set to music by Luna.
The poets whose work will be discussed are all known for their original Afrikaans works that openly address social issues and oppression. Given the frustrations and challenges that today’s youth also experience, the idea of the workshop is to help give young people a creative outlet for their ideas. By combining music with some of the poems/lyrics, it shows how sounds and words can work together to convey protest messages to young and old.
Luna is a songwriter, singer and producer who has released five full-length English and Afrikaans albums since 1999. She enjoys incorporating her own poetry as a linking text in her musical performances, and has presented numerous literature appreciation workshops for high school students as she wants to share literature with as many young people as possible.
The workshop will take place on 11 June 2022 from 09:00 to 13:00 in the Toringkerk’s hall, Paarl. Advance booking via kommunikasie@taalmuseum.co.za or 021 863 0543 is essential. More about Luna at lunapaige.com
